CPSR-Perú is a public interest research centre on information and communications technology (ICT). Founded in Lima in October 2002, as a civil society non-profit association, its mission is to promote the use and development of ICT in a social responsible way, to influence in the process of public policies decision making related to ICT and to foster the development of a more humane information society.
Its main topics are digital copyright law, free and open source software, access to culture, knowledge and essential information, open standards, computer law, privacy and data protection, Internet governance, voting technology, and information society.
CPSR-Perú is an associate member of the Ibero American Data Protection Network, promoted by the Spanish Data Protection Authority. Is also the Peruvian chapter of Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility – CPSR, an international public interest alliance of computer scientists and others concerned about the impact of computer technology on society. Originally founded by U.S. computer scientists in 1981, in Palo Alto - California, CPSR now has members in over 30 countries on five continents. CPSR has the status of a consultant for the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC), has International Union of Telecommunications accreditation for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and is a permanent observer at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), where CPSR-Perú supports the Proposal for the Establishment of a Development Agenda for WIPO and follows the broadcasting treaty discussions.
On June 27th and 28th, 2006, CPSR-Perú and The Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School are organizing the iLaw Program Peru 2006, for first time in a Spanish speaking South American country.
